Inter Milan further emphasize that Mauro Icardi is not in the plans for this season. Inter gave the number 9 – which belongs to Mauro Icardi to Romelu Lukaku.
Lukaku was just recruited by Inter from Manchester United. The Nerazzurri spent 65 million euros plus a bonus of 10 million euros to bring in the Belgian striker.
That number makes Lukaku Inter’s most expensive recruitment. Previously, Inter’s most expensive purchase record was Christian Vieri who was brought from Lazio in 2001 for 46.5 million euros.
To Lukaku, Inter returned number 9. Inter announced it on social media.
Inter decision to give back number 9 to Lukaku emphasized that Icardi was no longer needed. As is known, number 9 was previously used by Icardi.
Not just this time Inter removed what was used by Icardi. Last season, La Beneamata revoked the status of the Argentine striker’s captain.
Since the arrival of Antonio Conte, Inter have publicly stated that Icardi was not included in the club’s plans for the 2019/2020 season. The 26-year-old striker was included in the list of sales.
However, Inter have not been able to release Icardi. The former Sampdoria player reportedly refused to leave Giuseppe Meazza.
A number of clubs are reportedly interested in Icardi. Napoli are said to be at the forefront even though their approach efforts have so far been rejected by Icardi.
Juventus had also been linked with Icardi. Later, AS Roma reportedly participated in chasing Icardi’s autograph, moreover they were also threatened to lose Edin Dzeko.
